Thai authorities have detained two Nigerian men after immigration officers allegedly discovered about six grammes of cocaine hidden inside a cooker hood in their apartment in Pattaya, Chon Buri Province.

According to a report by Thaiger, immigration officers from Chon Buri raided the apartment last Friday following a tip-off that one of the men was allegedly staying in Thailand illegally.

The officers reportedly found two Nigerian nationals, aged 25 and 29, inside the apartment.

Immigration checks showed that one of the men was allegedly residing in Thailand illegally, while the other had entered the country on a tourist visa.

“Officers found two Nigerian men, aged 25 and 29. Immigration checks showed that one was staying in Thailand illegally, while the other had entered the country on a tourist visa,” the report stated.

Authorities reportedly searched the apartment for more than 20 minutes before discovering five small packages containing suspected cocaine.

“The room was searched for more than 20 minutes before officers found five small packages of cocaine wrapped in black tape and hidden inside the cooker hood. The drugs weighed around six grammes in total and were seized as evidence,” the report added.

Preliminary urine tests were also reportedly conducted on the suspects, with traces of drugs allegedly detected in one of the men, while the other tested negative.

The suspects were said to have told investigators that they obtained the cocaine from an acquaintance living on their street in Pattaya and had not yet paid for it.

They reportedly claimed that the substance was intended for their personal use and denied any intention to sell it.

Both men were subsequently taken to Pattaya City Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
