The Awolowo family has announced the passing of Olusegun Awolowo Jr., a prominent Nigerian lawyer and grandson of the late nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

In a heartfelt statement, the family described Awolowo as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, highlighting his unwavering commitment to his family, his work, and his country.

“He was the world’s most phenomenal husband, father, and grandfather steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family,” the statement read. “A painfully loyal servant to Nigeria, he dedicated his life to the service of his country with vision, integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment.”

Awolowo served as the Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) from 2013 to 2021, contributing significantly to the country’s trade and export development.

Born on 27 September 1963, Awolowo was widely regarded for his dedication to public service and his efforts to advance Nigeria’s economic prospects. The family expressed deep gratitude for his life, legacy, and the love he shared, saying, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”

Olusegun Awolowo Jr. is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His passing marks the end of a life devoted to family, faith, and national service, leaving behind a lasting legacy in both public and private spheres.
