Renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Wole Olanipekun, has criticised the Federal Government for its continued refusal to publicly identify and prosecute sponsors of terrorism and other destabilising elements threatening national security.

Speaking with journalists in Ikere-Ekiti during the 29th Wole Olanipekun Scholarship Scheme and 6th Empowerment Programme, the former Chairman of the Body of Benchers said the government’s silence has emboldened criminals, deepened public distrust and weakened national cohesion.

Olanipekun noted that while ordinary citizens suffer killings, kidnappings and extremist attacks, those providing financial backing for such violence remain protected. He cited recent incidents including the abduction of more than 300 students and teachers at St Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, and the attack on a Christ Apostolic Church where two people were killed and over 30 abducted.

He questioned why Nigeria continues to shield individuals undermining its security, insisting that no country advances while tolerating acts tantamount to war against the state.

According to him, “The problems have been there, but we should stop pretending. There are people who claim to be citizens but do not love this country. You cannot sabotage your country and get away with it. Why are we not naming names? Why are we describing a spade as an agricultural instrument when we know who is desecrating the house? People talk in this country as if they are above the law.”

Olanipekun urged the Federal Government to summon the courage to confront and prosecute those undermining national stability, stressing that Nigeria does not need foreign intervention to enforce accountability. He maintained that naming and prosecuting terror financiers remains the only meaningful step toward restoring confidence and order.

The event also highlighted the impact of the Wole Olanipekun Foundation, which since 1996 has supported 505 beneficiaries across various categories. These include 50 elderly individuals under the Old People Programme, 250 youths through skills development and start-up support, 50 widows through livelihood assistance and 155 students under the scholarship scheme.

In his remarks, the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, praised Olanipekun for his consistent commitment to empowering young people and vulnerable groups. He described the senior advocate as a blessing to Ekiti and the nation and urged beneficiaries to use the support they received to build their potential rather than divert it to frivolous pursuits.
