The Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ogun State Chapter, has announced the suspension of its indefinite strike following a meeting with the state government.

The union had embarked on the strike earlier this month over the non-payment of a 40 per cent peculiar allowance by the state government.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Adewale Adenekan, the union revealed that its National Officers and the Ogun JUSUN Executive Committee members held a meeting with the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) on Monday. The meeting was also attended by the state chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Joint Negotiation Council (JNC).

During the meeting, the authenticity of the union’s demand was established. However, the timing of the implementation of the union’s demand has become a point of contention, considering the imminent announcement by the Federal Government of the new minimum wage, which is expected on May 1.

Adenekan stated that the implementation of the new minimum wage is expected to take place between May and June 2024 for both Federal and State workers. This development has led to the suspension of the strike, as the union awaits the implementation of the new minimum wage.

The suspension of the strike comes as a relief to the state’s judiciary, which had been affected by the industrial action.
