Ogun State House of Assembly, on Thursday, called for a compulsory insurance scheme and standard rules of engagement for the Amotekun Corps.

The Speaker of the House, Olakunle Oluomo, made the call while presiding over a debate on the bill at the plenary.
The bill is titled, ‘HB.NO 035/OG/2020-A Bill for a Law to Establish the Ogun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps”.
Oluomo, while lauding his colleagues for their contributions to the debate on the bill, stated the need for a pension scheme for the members of the Corps.
The bill went through the second reading.
In their submissions, the lawmakers explained that the law was targeted at devising a community policing scheme to complement and collaborate with existing security agencies to reduce crime to the barest minimum in the state, South West and the nation at large.
They emphasised the need to ensure a comprehensive insurance scheme for all the operatives of the operatives and called for the effective monitoring of their operations and activities of the corps towards ensuring efficiency and quality service delivery.
Lagos Assembly receives bill, begins hearing Monday
Meanwhile, Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday received an Executive Bill on Amotekun from the executive arm led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. It fixed Monday for public hearing.
The Clerk of the House, Mr Azeez Sanni, informed the House that he received a bill from the state Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo, on Wednesday.
Sanni said the bill was seeking an amendment to the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
The clerk read the bill entitled, ‘A House of Assembly Bill No. 5 Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Amendment Bill 2020 and for Connected Purposes for the First and Second times.’
The Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, referred the bill to the House Committee on Information, Publicity, Security and Strategy.
Obasa noted that the committee would be headed by Mr Tunde Braimoh, who would report back to the House at a date yet to be fixed.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that three state Houses of Assembly, Ekiti, Oyo and Ondo, had passed the Amotekun Bill.
