The Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association Benin branch (Lion Bar) Ogaga Emoghwanre has shared his experience from the recently concluded Summit of the NBA Young Lawyers Forum, Warri branch where he was invited to speak on the topic “Starting Up Your Firm (Sole Practitioner, Associateship or Partnership) and Sourcing for Funds – Accessing the NBA Finance Scheme”.
According to Ogaga, “it was a very humbling experience for me, as much as it was a great privilege to be invited back home to one of the branches I regard as home to speak on the topic “Starting Up Your Firm (Sole Practitioner, Associateship or Partnership) and sourcing for Funds- Accessing the NBA Finance Scheme”.
He noted that the topic gave him the opportunity to talk on the ‘Access to Finance Scheme’ put together by the Olumide Akpata Administration of which he is part of in his capacity as the Secretary of the National Welfare Committee.
According to him, “It was an engaging moment for everyone. I gave my personal observation and intervention with respect to the topic and at the end of the day, it was both a give and take experience, as I learnt a lot from the interactive session. Everyone went home enriched with cross-pollinated knowledge.”
Ogaga also noted that he was presented with an award towards the end of the summit and afterwards he had a personal interaction with the branch members.
He continued: “Towards the end of the submit, I was given an Award which even made it the more memorable for me, before sitting back to interact with young and vibrant lawyers, the future of the Nigerian Bar Association.”
In a related development, Ogaga Emoghwanre who is currently intensifying his campaign as the NBA elections draw close has promised that if elected as Publicity Secretary of the Bar, he shall push the NBA to consistently speak truth to power and authorities in the country.
He also pledged to ensure that the views of the NBA are conveyed to the public in a manner that fulfils the intended purpose.
He said:
“ON SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER.
If elected as the National Publicity Secretary, I shall, as an officer of the NBA and member of the Executive Committee push for the NBA to consistently speak truth to government, its agencies, business, and other stakeholders in the Nigerian polity, irrespective of who is involved. I will ensure that the views of the NBA in the above instances are communicated to the public in a manner that would convey the purpose intended. This, I am determined to do.
