The National Youth Service Corps has blacklisted three local government areas in Kebbi State from the posting of corps members over security concerns.

The affected local government areas are Augie, Arewa and Sakaba.

The NYSC State Coordinator in Kebbi, Bala Dabo Kagarko, disclosed this during an interaction with journalists at the temporary NYSC Orientation Camp in Basura, Jega Local Government Area of the state.

Kagarko said the decision was taken to protect corps members from possible security threats in the affected areas.

“For the safety of corps members, we are not posting them to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas of the state again,” he said.

He also disclosed that the NYSC requested the relocation of its orientation camp from Dakingari to the temporary camp in Basura, Jega Local Government Area, because of insecurity.

According to him, the security situation has also affected the number of corps members being deployed to Kebbi State.

The state coordinator lamented that the number of corps members posted to the state had dropped drastically, making it difficult to meet manpower needs in critical sectors.

“We no longer have doctors to post to the state hospitals, not enough corps members to post to schools and other areas where they are needed to contribute to the development of the state,” Kagarko said.

He said Kebbi now has the least number of corps members in the country, despite repeated appeals to the appropriate authorities.

“Kebbi now has the least number of corps members in the country. Several appeals have been made to the right quarters, but we are yet to get their response,” he added.
