The composer of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) anthem, Dr Oluwole Adetiran on Friday died at the age of 74.

Adetiran, who studied music at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, recalled that he composed the anthem in 1984 while he was a corps member in Oyo State.

During a visit of the NYSC Director General Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, to his house in Ibafo, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State in July 2021, Adetiran lamented that he had been suffering from diseases, including hypertension, diabetes and prostate cancer since 2018.

The NYSC National Anthem goes thus:

Youths obey the clarion call

Let’s us lift our nation high
Under the sun or in the rain
With dedication and selflessness
Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve.

Stanza 2

Members, take the great salute
Put the Nation first in all
With service and humility
NYSC for the noble youths
Make Nigeria a great nation.
