Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN and Wife

Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN, has once again demonstrated that true leadership is rooted in continuous self-development. The senior advocate, mentor and educator received his Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Energy and Natural Resources Law and Policy from Nile University, Abuja, graduating with a Distinction and a perfect CGPA of 5.0.

The ceremony formed part of a three-in-one academic milestone for Gadzama, who is simultaneously a PhD student and a Part-Time Lecturer at the university. His latest achievement reinforces his longstanding message to young lawyers: excellence requires constant learning.

A former Chairman of the Body of Benchers’ Mentoring Committee for Young Lawyers, Gadzama is also the convener of the annual Honourable Justice Oputa Mentoring Programme, now in its 10th year. His influence on the professional growth of emerging lawyers is widely acknowledged. By undertaking and excelling in a demanding postgraduate programme, he has modelled the discipline and commitment he expects from his mentees.

The achievement is especially notable given his extensive professional obligations. Gadzama serves as a Life Bencher, leads a prominent law firm, and is the Chancellor of Newgate University, Minna. Yet, he continues to pursue advanced studies in a specialised field that now spans Solid Mineral Law and Policy, Environmental Law, Oil and Gas Law, and Electricity Law.

For Gadzama, the LL.M. is more than an academic credential. It is a reaffirmation of a philosophy: leaders in the legal profession must remain students. His graduation is both a personal accomplishment and a public lesson in the value of lifelong learning.
