The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has provided clarification regarding the recent fire incident at a tank farm in Marine Beach, Apapa, Lagos.

In a statement released by Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, the company confirmed that the affected Depot belonged to HOGL Energy Ltd. (Honeywell Depot) and not an NNPC Retail Ltd. facility, as initially reported by early responders.

The fire, which has since been extinguished, was caused by a spillage of petroleum products within the perimeter of the tank farm. NNPC Ltd. assured the public that the incident will not affect the supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country.

“NNPC Ltd. and other Depots in the area have resumed loading activities,” Soneye stated, emphasizing the company’s commitment to maintaining a steady supply of fuel to meet the nation’s needs.

The swift response and successful containment of the fire by emergency services have been commended by industry experts. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of strict safety measures and regular maintenance in the handling and storage of petroleum products.

NNPC Ltd. expressed its gratitude to the firefighters, safety personnel, and all those involved in the rapid response and management of the situation. The company also extended its appreciation to the public for their understanding and cooperation during the incident.
