The National Judicial Council (NJC) has revealed its decision to report prominent Lagos lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Chief A.A. Aribisala to the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) over some unspecified but “unpalatable and derogatory remarks” he allegedly made against a sitting judge.

In a press statement issued after the National Judicial Council’s 104th meeting from December 6 to 7, 2023, the Council stated it had passed a resolution to drag Aribisala before the LPPC for necessary investigative and disciplinary actions.
According to inside sources, the nature and details of the supposedly injurious comments made by Chief Aribisala against the unnamed judge were not expressly outlined. The senior lawyer is yet to publicly respond to this new development.
Recall that back in 2013, Chief Aribisala had been stripped of his SAN title by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee based on separate petitions filed against him by Fidelity Bank and the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) for alleged professional misconducts.
The senior advocate subsequently instituted legal proceedings against the bank and LPPC for taking such decision when his application for injunction restraining the committee was still pending. About 20 months later in October 2014, his rank was restored to him after the two petitioners withdrew their cases.
