The National Judicial Council’s (NJC) Judges’ Performance Evaluation Committee has commended Hon. Justice Nelson Ogbuanya of the National Industrial Court for excellent performance in the second quarter of 2022.

Chairman of the committee, HRH Hon. Justice Bage Muhammad 1, sent a letter dated November 28th praising Justice Ogbuanya’s productivity in delivering 28 judgments over the 3-month period. The committee oversees the monitoring and accountability mechanisms for Nigeria’s superior court judges.

Secretary H.S. Sa’eed, signing for the chairman, urged Justice Ogbuanya to maintain his impressive output. Timely and well-reasoned judgments have been highlighted as crucial to a well-functioning judiciary.

The National Industrial Court handles trade disputes and other specialized cases, making Justice Ogbuanya’s rulings highly consequential. His ability to maintain volume while upholding quality has been specifically cited in this latest commendation.

The performance evaluation program aims to boost productivity and efficiency in Nigerian courts through continuous feedback to jurists like Hon. Justice Ogbuanya. Both progress and constructive criticism are provided to meet citizens’ expectations for justice delivery.

While public skepticism of the courts remains high, standout judges could help turn the tide – provided excellent performers are motivated to inspire peers. Justice Ogbuanya’s quarter two numbers have set the tone for exactly that within the industrial court system.
