The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has stated the clearance procedures for international travelers as contained in the Immigration act 2015 and immigration regulation 2017.

The Service Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday James, disclosed this in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
James said that in line with the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) guidelines on international travel, all persons crossing Nigeria’s international border are to comply with the procedures on passenger clearance.
“This is contained in the Immigration Act, 2015 and Immigration Regulation 2017,” he said.
He stated that the introduction of Migration Information Data Analysis System (MIDAS) in clearance of passenger had made it necessary for passengers to undergo the following clearance procedures.
“Appear before an immigration Officer at Immigration Counter in person. Submit National Passport and other relevant documents the Officer might request.
“Present self to immigration for biometric capture and provide demographic information.
“When a passenger is travelling with a minor, he/she is expected to present the minor to immigration for documentation, ” he said.
He added that in view of the above, it was mandatory for all departing passengers to present themselves for clearance two hours before departure of the aircraft.
James stated that the attitude of some passengers arriving the immigration Counter late would not be accepted.
“It is important to note that after Immigration clearance, a passenger is deemed admitted or departed Nigerian territory. This means no passenger will be allowed to leave the Immigration Control Area after departure clearance.
MIDAS had already been deployed at 14 land borders and two seaports which has greatly enhanced the ability to harness records of migration flow at the nation’s borders.
MIDAS is a Border Management Information System (BMIS) and IT based solution designed to process and record both biometric details of passenger’s movement.
