According to him, Everybody expects Nigeria to perform because of her quality of human and material resources. Buhari stated this at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday while receiving the national planning and implementation committee of the first National Youth Open Water Swimming Competition tagged “Youth Unity Cup 2016”, led by Senator Kabir Gaya. The president said Nigeria just has to be up and doing in order to show Africa and the entire world that her size and number is not for nothing. “We should prove that we can produce competitive individuals and we are able to manage ourselves. I am pleased to be associated with this event. I have been told how you have been training very hard. Please, try to convince your colleagues to be more competitive so that you can justify our size and our resources. “This is necessary because some small countries specialised in some sport aspects and then the whole world will now be looking for (such countries) them on the map. So, the big countries like us have to try and keep them in their small places while we take the leadership by our size and resources that have been endowed to us by God,” he said. Senator Gaya said the competition was aimed at raising a pool of young Nigerian swimmers; discovering hidden talents, breeding future stars and professionals to represent Nigeria in international swimming events as well as promoting cohesion, national peace, unity and security.]]>
