Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has praised the Nigerian judiciary for its unwavering role in protecting personal liberties and upholding democracy.
Speaking at a luncheon held in honor of three newly appointed judges in Ibadan on Saturday, Governor Adeleke described the judiciary as a “beacon of hope for the weak and the powerless,” emphasizing its crucial contributions to the nation’s democratic progress.
The event, organized by Musibau Adetunji, SAN & Co., provided a platform for the Governor to commend the judiciary’s steadfast commitment to justice and equity. He stated, “From the bar to the bench, you are the harbinger of hope, the temple of redemption, and the house of liberation for the unjustly treated. In Africa and beyond, I personally hold the Nigerian judiciary as one of the best in terms of its commitment to justice and equity.”
Governor Adeleke highlighted the judiciary’s role as a stabilizing force in the face of national challenges, noting that it continues to provide direction and fairness in governance. “In an era of deep challenges facing several national institutions, the bar and the bench still sustain their balancing responsibilities, providing the nation with a torch of direction, justice, and equity,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to members of the judiciary for their patriotism and resilience, despite operational difficulties. “The nation owes you a lot of gratitude for your consistent patriotism despite many pronounced handicaps in the operational environment,” he added.
The Governor further urged judges at all levels to remain steadfast in upholding the rule of law, justice, fairness, and equity. “As you have demonstrated such consistency in the past, I appeal for further entrenchment of passion for the truth. You hold the key to the survival of our democracy. The citizenry, day and night, look up to you as the resort of hope and redemption,” he emphasized.
The three newly appointed judges, Justice O.A. Popoola, Justice M.O. Folorunsho, and Justice R.O. Muraina, were congratulated by Governor Adeleke, who reminded them of their sacred duty to uphold the law with integrity and the fear of God. “You have a sacred duty to uphold the law, the truth, and the fear of God. As your seniors have progressed, I pray the same for you. I pray to Almighty God for divine wisdom and mercy as you wield the big stick in pursuance of law and justice,” he said.
Governor Adeleke was accompanied to the event by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Kazeem Akinleye, members of the Osun State House of Assembly, and members of the State Executive Council.
