Dallas County on Thursday elected a Nigerian born lady, Chika Anyiam, to serve as a District Court Judge in the US.

Chika Anyiam is a Democratic judge-elected for the State District Judge of Dallas County Criminal District Court No. 7., in Texas.

Anyiam is the first African immigrant in US history to become a state district judge Dallas, TX

Anyiam won the general election on November 6, 2018, after advancing from the primary on March 6, 2018.

Anyiam was a Private Practice Attorney who specialized in criminal defense.

Judges of the County Courts are elected in partisan elections by the County they serve and serve four-year terms, with vacancies filled by a vote of the county commissioners.

To qualify to serve in a county court, a judge must:

* Be at least 25 years old;
* Be a resident of his or her respective county for at least two years; and
* Must have practiced law or served as a Judge for at least four years preceding the election.
