The venue for the November 2019 Call to Bar will be different from the usual place the Nigerian Law School has always hosted her Call to Bar.

TheNigerialawyer (TNL), gathered that this year’s call to bar will be held at Bwari, Abuja, Nigerian Law School Campus unlike the usual International Conference Centre (ICC).

TNL on enquiring the reason for the change learned that International Conference Centre (ICC) has been booked by another organization.

A reliable source informed TNL that the reason for the change was because ICC has been booked for an event by another organization.

“The body of benchers tried convincing the organization to swap the venue but it didn’t pull through as the group insisted on using their ICC Venue and date.

“They also went to National Judicial Institute (NJI) for their big hall but unfortunately the venue has also been taken for All Judges Conference which will hold through the week.

“They decided to use the Bwari Law School Campus for the Call, the source said.

TNL in a bid to get clarification on this put a call across to the Secretary of Body of Benchers, Sadiya Turaki, who answered in the affirmative and stated that the change was because ICC has been booked for a meeting by all the Local Government Chairmen and their Representatives.

She said that, originally, the call to Bar is meant to take place in Law school Bwari campus, though, for almost 10 years, the International Conference Centre has been the place for Calls.

According to her, the place for call is Nigerian Law School, not ICC, but considering the nature and age of parents, the Body of Benchers and other guests, we decided to use the ICC, which we have been doing for almost 10 years now.

“The reason the Nigerian Law School, Bwari Campus will be used for the Nov. 2019 call and not ICC is that the Law School Bar Final Examination results came a bit late. Based on this, the date for Call was rescheduled and when we went to get the venue at ICC, it was already booked.

“We have gone to most places to see if we can get a place that will be convenient for all but nowhere.

“We tried discussing with the people who earlier booked ICC, but they objected to it having booked the place since September and have their dates on their cards,” she said.

Mrs. Sadiya Turaki also debunked the report that the reason for the change was based on logistics.

She said: “This has nothing to do with logistics. We went to Transcorp Hilton to see if their banquet hall will be spacious to accommodate us for the Call to bar, but it wasn’t successful.

“Government is funding us, so it is not a problem of logistics. We have been using ICC for a long time. We couldn’t get a venue, that is the point, rule out the report that the change is based on Logistics,” Sadiya added.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Chiroma later confirmed this in a telephone conversation with TheNigerialawyer (TNL) on the change of venue for Call to the Bar.

Recall that the call to Bar date remains 26th, 27th and 28th of November and each call day has 2 sessions being morning and afternoon.
