The Nigeria Football Federation has denied reports on social media alleging that enterprising winger Samuel Kalu suffered a heart attack in the Super Eagles camp in Alexandria on Friday.

According to reports, the Bordeaux midfielder was fine-tuning his corner kick technique when he slumped.

The 21-year-old was rushed to the hospital where he was stabilised and treated.

Although there was confirmation of an incident in the camp relating to Kalu’s health, the federation stated that the heart attack reports were untrue as the player only suffered a case of dehydration, which has since been taken care of by the doctors.

The report stated that the incident occurred during the team’s final training ahead of their AFCON opener against the Swallows of Burundi in Alexandria on Saturday.

NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire stated that the situation was under control as the player was already in his room after the incident, adding that Kalu was in stable condition.

“He (Kalu) is fine now, he had a case of dehydration and that has been taken care of.

He has been instructed to take a lot of fluids,” Olajire said.

On February 27, Kalu’s mother Ozuruonye Juliet Kalu was kidnapped as she travelled to her home in Abia state.

She was eventually released after the kidnappers held her for nearly a week.
