The Supreme Court of Nigeria has introduced a new fees schedule as part of the Supreme Court Rules, 2024, which will come into effect on August 1, 2024.

The new schedule, signed by the 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, GCON, outlines the fees payable for various processes and services at the apex court.

Under the new schedule, the fees for filing a Notice of Appeal against an interlocutory order or decision and a Notice of Appeal where leave is granted have been set at ₦20,000 each. The fee for filing a motion for leave to appeal is now ₦15,000, while filing any motion not otherwise provided for will cost ₦15,000.

The schedule also introduces a penalty of ₦5,000 for each additional day of failure to file a brief within the prescribed period. The fee for obtaining a Certified True Copy (CTC) of a Supreme Court judgment is now ₦500 per page, and the fee for each volume of record from the court is ₦50,000.

Other notable fees include ₦5,000 for filing a motion to relist an appeal previously dismissed or struck out, ₦25,000 for filing a motion to set aside a final judgment of the court, and ₦20,000 for every record of proceedings of the court.

The new fees schedule also stipulates that the allowances payable to witnesses and the fees for the services of special interpreters will be in line with those of the High Court having jurisdiction in the place where such services are rendered.

Legal practitioners and litigants are advised to familiarize themselves with the new fees schedule to ensure compliance when filing processes at the Supreme Court.
