A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Ndukwe Nnawuchi, has been appointed Imo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
A former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Owerri Branch Chairman, Lawrence Nwakaetti, who hailed the appointment, told The Nation, Not TheNigerialawyer: “Mr Nnawuchi is a consummate Bar man, a seasoned lawyer and well groomed in the spirit and ethics of the legal profession. He is a well-respected legal practitioner, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who has reached the peak of his career.
He continued:“He is not going there to impress anybody but to serve the Bar and the state. Though a radical, he is accomplished and I see his appointment a wonderful development for the state. I commend him for accepting the appointment.
Nwakaetti also commended the Governor for appointing Nnawuchi as Attorney-General, and assured that he will do the right thing. “I also commend the Governor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, for being lawyer-friendly.
“He has done well for the lawyers in all the appointments made so far. The world over, lawyers have been in the forefront of leadership and transformation of their countries and Nigeria will not be an exception.”
Nnawuchi’s practice has spanned over 34 years, having been called to Bar in 1984.
He graduated from University of Ife, Ile Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and was elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2012.
He got married to Lady Juilet Ndukwe Nnawuchi of blessed memory, and the marriage was blessed with three male children, all of whom are lawyers.
Apart from his exploits in various disciplines of legal practice, he has acted as external solicitor and legal adviser to Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri; Anambra/Imo River Basin Development Authority, Owerri; Nigeria Union of Teachers Imo State Wing and the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Lagos.
He has also advised the Central Securities and Clearing System Ltd. Lagos; Shell Development Petroleum Company Nigeria Ltd; MTN Nigeria Ltd, Diamond Bank Plc; the Hausa Community in Imo State and Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.
Nnawuchi is member of the Order of Knights of St. Christopher of the Anglican Church and the Registrar/Clerk of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri.
He is a patron to many social and religious organisations.
