The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has raised licensing fees for data protection compliance organizations (DPCOs) to N1 million for new registration and N500,000 for renewals.
The steep fee increment comes as the NDPC upgrades operations under the new 2023 Data Protection Act. The agency said it is repositioning to better regulate data management in line with global standards.
Previously under the 2019 NDPR regulation, DPCO licensing cost N50,000 initially and N500,000 later, with N250,000 charged for renewals. But under latest fee guidelines, new applicants will now pay N1 million.
NDPC also outlined requirements for DPCO eligibility, covering skills in data protection law, IT security, audit, EU GDPR expertise and related areas. At least two qualified staff must be shown.
The agency further directed firms to submit their applications through the NDPC online portal at app.ndpc.gov.ng once registration windows are opened. Payment is to be through the Remita platform.
