*Women’s Day Conference Call On Women To Take The Lead.
*Women Should Rise And Subdue The Archaic Notion And Stereotype On Them Says Ezekwesili

The Women Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) had during its first Virtual Conference in commemoration of the International Women’s Day (IWD) put a spotlight on the achievement of Women on the Bar while chatting strategies to address areas of necessary improvement such as:

Diversity in the law profession, Stereotypes, Participation in Governance and Growth Acceleration for Young Lawyers.

At the conference which held virtually on the 24th of March, 2021 were Dignitaries from all walks of life among which are opinion leaders, politicians, public servants, civil servants and outstanding women in the legal Profession.

Distinguished guests present at the occasion were Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma Esq., wife of the Governor of Imo State, Mrs. Anna Mbasughun Darius Ishaku Esq., wife of the Governor of Taraba State, Prof. Oluyemi Bangbose SAN who served as the Chairman of the Conference, Mr. Olumide Apkata the NBA President and Dr. (Mrs.) Oby Ezekwesiri a former Minister of Education and a Co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Campaign (BBOG) who delivered the keynote speech at the Conference.

The theme of the conference was “PATHWAY TO DIVERSITY: CHALLENGING BLINDSPOTS AND POWERING UP FOR INCLUSIONS”.

The key note speech was delivered by Dr. Ezekwesiri who noted that in most part of the World Women are visibly absent in decision-making process as well as in the formulation of Economic and Monetary Policies. According to her, the Modern hood of Maternity should no longer be the case while encouraging women to rise and subdue the archaic notion and stereotype on Women.

She decried that only twenty-five percent of Women are in full legal Practice, therefore called on them to change the narrative.

In his contribution, the NBA President Mr. Olumide Apkata said the most interesting event to look forward to was a two-day training for Young Female lawyers as a guide gap analysis tools, the principle of Women’s Empowerment.

The NBAWF Vice-Chairman Chinyere Okorocha noted that the theme of the conference was a field of Women and law in variety of disciplines. She said it was appropriate because he had come a long way in rewriting the stereotypical story that society has inspired on them.

“Today we can give a girl born in Sapele, Sokoto or Delta, a dream of not only becoming a lawyer, but also aiming at the Pinnacle of her career as a lawyer. In-house Lawyer, Public Defender, People on the Bench” Okorocha said.

The conference witnessed a lot of sessions with Panelists calling on female Lawyer to rise above all tides and bar and take opportunities that lies in the profession.
