The Young Lawyers Forum (YLF) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has issued a statement on the NBA LawPavilion Subscription fee advising Young Lawyers who are yet to get verified on the NBA website to do so without further delay.

This is contained in a statement dated 1st day of July, 2020 signed by the YLF Chairman, Tobi Adebowale,Esq., and the Secretary, Patricia Udeh, which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer.

The statement noted that the LawPavilion subscription had been made accessible to 6,500 Young Lawyers across the federation, urging them to check their email addresses.

Furthermore, the statement disclosed that there are support lines that have been given in a bid to smoothen the process, by ensuring that all Lawyers who have complaints as a result of the verification process are assisted.

Besides, the statement further reiterated that the present NBA LawPavilion initiative “ is separate and distinct from the palliative measures for Young Lawyers and other vulnerable members of the NBA being coordinated by the NBA Welfare Committee led by the respected Dr. Olawale Babalakin, SAN.”

The full statement reads:

RE: LAWPAVILION ONE-YEAR SUBSCRIPTION – A REMINDER TO ALL YOUNG LAWYERS TO GET VERIFIED ON THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION WEBSITE

As we begin a new month, the Governing Council of the Nigerian Bar Association (“NBA”) Young Lawyers Forum (“YLF”) wishes all Young Lawyers a most productive month.

Sequel to our statement of 11 June 2020 in which we provided guidance on use of the membership portal on the NBA website for verification purposes, we wish to remind all lawyers called to the Nigerian Bar between 2014 and 2019 of the importance of completing the verification process and in timely fashion.

The YLF has since 11 June 2020 worked closely with the NBA Secretariat and LawPavilion to identify eligible beneficiaries of the one-year subscription to the LawPavilion Electronic Law Reports and Legal Research Software License (the “LawPavilion Subscription”) paid for by the NBA on behalf of Young Lawyers who paid their Bar Practice Fees on or before March 31, 2020. To this end, we are pleased to confirm that on 30 June 2020, the relevant access codes to the LawPavilion Subscription were dispatched to the verified email addresses of 6,500 Young Lawyers across the country.

In the days ahead, as many Young Lawyers who have been verified on the NBA website will similarly receive access codes to the LawPavilion Subscription. Thus, all eligible beneficiaries are enjoined to check the spam/ junk folders of their email accounts for the access codes. Also, all eligible beneficiaries with running LawPavilion subscriptions will have their subscriptions extended by an additional one (1) year.

For the avoidance of doubt, all beneficiaries of the LawPavilion Subscription are not required to make any payment whatsoever to take full benefit of the package.

In view of the foregoing, we urge all Young Lawyers who are yet to get verified on the NBA membership portal to do so by visiting – https://nigerianbar.org.ng/membershipportal and follow the steps below:

(a) For lawyers who have not previously been verified:

  • Return to the NBA Membership Portal page;
  • Copy your enrolment number and password from the confirmation email and enter same on the portal as login details to avoid errors; and
  • Ensure you type both the alphabets and figures of your Supreme Court Number together without space (E.G.: SCN111111).

08165037594; 08168011579; 08165374194; 08167181605.

We enjoin all Young Lawyers to rest assured that all eligible beneficiaries who have completed the verification process will receive access codes accordingly and that the YLF will continue to liaise with the LawPavilion team and the NBA Secretariat to address all relevant concerns.

In addition, we reiterate that the LawPavilion Subscription, whilst also a gratuitous palliative made available to Young Lawyers by the NBA, is separate and distinct from the palliative measures for Young Lawyers and other vulnerable members of the NBA being coordinated by the NBA Welfare Committee led by the respected Dr. Olawale Babalakin, SAN.

Thank you.
