The “CHAIRMAN YLF ANAOCHA BRANCH CONDEMNS THE EXTRA JUDICIAL EXECUTION IN ANAMBRA BY POLICEMEN ATTACHED TO OPERATION UDOKA, URGES THE IGP TO WITHOUT THE SLIGHTEST HESITATION CHANGE THE CP ANAMBRA STATE COMMAND AND BRING PERPETRATORS TO BOOK”

The position of the Chairman, Young Lawyers Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association, Anaocha Branch, Ogbachalu Abuchi Goshen Esq., was made known in a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL)

Goshen condemned the extrajudicial execution of two young Nigerian citizens and called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately remove the State Commissioner of Police, John Abang and bring the perpetrators to book.

Addressing the deceased family and members of Amnesty International shortly after  he visited the scene of the crime at Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Goshen said “one question has remained unanswered and I put it to the Chairman of Police service Commission and the Inspector General of Police respectively why  is it that Anambra has recorded chronicles of Human Rights Abuses in the form of torture and Extrajudicial killings in utter defiance of Tenets of Democracy, since the assumption of office by CP John Abang”.

The YLF Chairman added that “It is disheartening to see the lifeless bodies of two free citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who were executed by trigger happy Policemen in a bid to enforce lockdown measures in Anambra State. “

He lamented that there have been reported cases of non-state actors (Federal Agents) in the state, maltreating citizens and abusing their fundamental Rights, all in purported enforcement of government lockdown measures. Goshen said such “has reached an alarming proportion, It has been tolerated by the Civil Society for too long and I am insisting on the rule of law.”

Goshen, Esq urges the Inspector General of Police to immediately remove the State Commissioner of Police of the state and bring another one. He also urged the families of the deceased to take lawful steps to report the matter to the Ministry of Justice.

“Though they are dead but their blood still weep and cry for justice. I hopefully want the Police authorities to react timeously by investigating the said extra judicial execution and bring the perpetrators to book to serve as deterrent to other security agents. Use of firearms must be the last resort. I therefore urge the Inspector General of Police and the Chairman Police Service Commission to without the slightest hesitation remove CP John Abang from Anambra State as his stay in Anambra State is marred with extra judicial execution and torture. While urging Ndi Anambra to respect and abide by the various lockdown measures, which are ostensibly made for our benefit, I pray the deceased families to follow the matter constitutionally by taking steps to report at Citizens Rights Defender of the Ministry of Justice Awka, Anambra State.” He said.

Concluding, the YLF Chairman urged his “learned friend, the Chairman of Young Lawyers Forum, NBA-Idemili Branch to provide every necessary legal support to the families of the victims to ensure that justice is done as NBA- Anaocha Branch Young Lawyers Forum will equally lend their voice in the interest of justice.”
