The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Warri Branch at the October general meeting of the Branch, held on Sunday, the 28th day of October 2019, launched a mobile App on Google Playstore for its website.

At the meeting chaired by the Chairman of the Branch, Michael A. Asugo, Esq., who stated the need for the Branch to evolve with the times, expressed delight that via the instrumentality of the App, members and non-members of the Branch will have easier access to the content and information on the Branch website. He added that the world which had become a global village, had also gotten to a stage where anyone with a smartphone was just a click away from whatever information he desires, hence the need for the App. He added that the use of the App was a novel idea in the NBA.

The Secretary of the Branch, John E. Aruoture, who was called upon by the Chairman to conduct a practical presentation of the new website, stated that it could be accessed either via www.nbawarri.com, or www.nbawarri.org. He added that “the App for the website can be downloaded on any Android phone from the Playstore on Google.” He informed members that to be eligible to access all information on the site, they will have to register by imputing their full name, Supreme Court Number, email address, mobile number, and a personally generated password, after which the Administrator of the site will verify and confirm their membership status. He stated that the site will enable an easy search for information on members of the Branch, which will include their names, emails, phone numbers, Supreme Court Numbers, Year of Call and office address. This, he said, will enable “easy access to information about the activities of the Branch; and to serve as an easy alternative platform for committee meetings by enabling the conduct of online meetings.” He added that non-members can also have near absolute access to all contents of the website save for a few restricted areas.

John E. Aruoture demonstrated the features and contents of the website to include the excerpts of the History Book of the Branch, the names, positions and photographs of the current Officers, the schedule of meetings, photo gallery of members and Bar events. The contents also included articles by members, a list of all Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), past members of the Branch, all Judges of the Delta State High Courts, Revenue, Magistrate and Customary Courts.

The Secretary also mentioned the fact that letters have been written to the Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Marshall Umukoro, and the Presiding Judge of the Federal High Court, Warri Judicial Division, Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite, requesting for their Lordships to inform registrars of their various cadre of courts to furnish the Branch with an advance cause list of cases. This is to enable the publication of the information on the website. He added that this will effectively make the Branch website a go-to area for lawyers in and outside Delta State, who are need of these kinds of information. He added that officials of the Court of Appeal will be reached for a similar purpose.

The Secretary concluded the presentation by adding that the website also contains copies of the minutes of meetings of the Branch from June 2018-till date. He promised the introduction of other features and contents, as the development of the site continues.
