“Students of the Nigerian Law School (NLS) have raised alarm over the alleged refusal by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to grant them exit passes from orientation camps nationwide, according to a report by Kubwaexpress

They are scheduled for the call to bar screening, which requires their departure from camps starting on February 19th. However, reports suggest that the NYSC has refused to issue passes, despite the upcoming NLS program.

This has raised concerns among students who are worried about potentially missing the final March call to bar ceremony. One aggrieved candidate suggested she would rather accept demobilization than forfeit the upcoming call.

However, exiting camp without authorization risks disciplinary action on conduct grounds. The NLS Director-General is said to have received complaints but has not responded yet.

When questioned, NYSC officials at the Kubwa camp neither confirmed nor denied withholding passes from law graduates. However, a Kubwa camp staff member hinted that this action might be related to the Nigerian Bar Association’s ongoing lawsuit against NYSC management regarding Minister Hannatu Musawa’s certificate. The court case alleges fault in Musawa and Kenny Ogungbe’s exemption from mandatory service.

The standoff leaves law students in a quandary over meeting NLS or flouting NYSC rules. With the screening three days away, the impasse shows no signs of quick resolution without urgent intercession by authorities.
