Mr. Habeeb Lawal,Esq., Assistant National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has warned all comedians and particularly, “Lasisielenu” to be wary in the way they present the noble Legal Profession in their jokes.

Mr. “Lasisielenu” has earlier on shared a video on his Twitter handle where he acted as a Lawyer attending to a supposed litigant outside a supposed Court room but not properly dressed.

The call is contained in a tweet by Mr. Habeeb Lawal where he stated that the representation of the comedian in a comedy video where he was improperly dressed in the profession’s attire is demeaning to the Legal Profession.

“Dear @lasisielenu, We’ve been tagged! We beg to use you as a point of reference to all other comedians. Lawyers have awesome sense of humour, as such we enjoy your jokes & appreciate the creativity. However, if you must represent our profession in your works…

“kindly ensure you properly adorn the wig, bip & gown.” He said.

It was further noted that although he has a fundamental right to freedom of expression through his comedies but then, he must be guided in the way he presents the Legal Profession stating that appropriate actions would be taken if he is not properly guided.

“We acknowledge your right of expression, but NOTE that we also reserve the rights to take all NECESSARY steps to guide against the ridicule of our noble profession and @NigBarAssoc shall not hesitate to exercise those rights.”

Finally, he was advised through a tagged video that should he need to make comedy about Lawyers, he should take a clue from Mr. Aliyu Imuekemhe popularly known as “Mc. Person”.

“In the likely event that you need a guide on how to make a joke about lawyers without ridiculing our appearance, here is a good guide.”
