The Nigerian Bar Association is mourning the passing away of its former President Chief Babatunde Olusola Benson, SAN.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary’ Dr. Rapuluchukwu Nduka.
His statement reads:
“Dear Colleagues,
“The Nigerian Bar Association received with shock, the sad news of the passing of its former President, Chief Babatunde Olusola Benson, SAN, whose demise occurred on 24th June, 2021.
“Late Chief Benson who passed on at the age of 89 had served the NBA as its General Secretary and subsequently as its President between 1978 and 1980. He was called to both the English and Nigerian Bar and was subsequently elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1983.
“Chief Benson was an astute and dogged Bar Man who served the legal profession both locally and internationally. He was one-time Vice-Chairman of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, and subsequently the President of the African Bar Association where he discharged his duties creditably.
“The NBA mourns with his family, friends, and members of the Ikorodu Branch where he was a life patron, and prays that the soul of the indefatigable legal titan finds eternal repose in the bosom of God Almighty”.
