The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has on 23rd day of June, 2020 announced the decision dissolving the Election Committee of the NBA Dutse Branch for non compliance with the provision of Articles 10 (3) & 10(10)(a) of the Uniform Bye-Laws for Branches in the constitution of the said Committee.

This is contained in a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer and signed by Mr. Jonathan Gunu Taidi, Esq., NBA General Secretary.

Also, it was noted that this is sequel to the recommendation of the Elections Appeals Panel (Northern Zone) which considered the appeals filed by Hafizu Sule Abubakar and M. M. Kashim on the constitution of the Committee.

Furthermore, Tijjani Inuwa Dutse, mni, Muhammad Adamu Gausu Jonah and Victor Chimezie, Esq. have been saddled with the responsibility as the Caretaker Committee to take charge of the leadership of the Branch in the interim, for a period of 3 months.

The statement reads:

DISSOLUTION OF ELECTION COMMITTEE/CONSTITUTION OF CARETAKER COMMITTEE FOR DUTSE BRANCH

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) 2020 Branches Elections Appeals Panel (Northern Zone) considered the appeals of Hafizu Sule Abubakar and M. M. Kashim on the constitution of the Branch Election Committee and reached the decision that the said Branch Election Committee was constituted in contravention of Article 10 (3) and 10 (10) (a) of the Uniform Bye-Laws for Branches and recommended that the Dutse Branch Election Committee be disbanded/dissolved.

The recommendation is accepted and following the expiration of the tenure of the Executive Committee of Dutse Branch on 29th June, 2020 the President, Paul Usoro, SAN has constituted a Caretaker Committee to handle the affairs of the Branch in line with Article 11 of the Uniform Bye-Laws for Branches for a period of three (3) months.

The Caretaker Committee may co-opt such members as it deems necessary and is composed of the following:

Tijjani Inuwa Dutse, mni
Muhammad Adamu Gausu
Jonah Victor Chimezie, Esq.

Members of the Branch are advised to cooperate with the Caretaker Committee as it pilots in the interim, the affairs of the Branch.
