*Sets Ground Rules for the Debate

The Young Wigs Foundation has received approval from the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) to host a Presidential debate session for the three Candidates going for the position.

The organization was birthed in the year 2015 by Inemesit Joy Dike who is solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and an Attorney of the New York Bar, USA, is designed as a platform to bridge the skills gap between young, upwardly mobile Lawyers and the realities of the practice of Law while encouraging innovation and creative skills for effective use of technology in today’s legal sphere, and has her slogan as “WHAT LAW SCHOOL DOESN’T TEACH YOU !!!.”

The Foundation through a public notice made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, and signed by her Founder, Inemesit Dike, made it known that it had received the approval of the ECNBA to host a debate session for the presidential candidates. The notice read thus in part: “I am very grateful to God to have been approved by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association to organise a Presidential Debate of the Nigerian Bar Association. Never in the history of the Nigerian Bar Association has there been a Debate amongst the Presidential Candidates…..until 2022.”

The letter of approval made available as well to TheNigeriaLawyer had been signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the ECNBA, Ayodele Akintude SAN and Maple Ekeke respectively, and stated that ECNBA was approving in with the NBA Constitution which allowed for debates between candidates, however, it stated thus: “Consequently, the ECNBA approves in principle the proposed presidential debate by your organization in so far, the provisions of the NBA Constitution are not violated.

For the avoidance of doubt, Part IV (12), (13), (14) (15) and V (8), (9), (10) & (11) of the 2nd Schedule of the NBA Constitution”

Furthermore, the Foundation went on to share ground rules of the debate which affirmed the prohibitions under The NBA Constitution, stated that candidates may not be represented, amongst others.

As regards the debate, It was the view of Inemesit this was an opportunity for Young Lawyers to have their voices heard and build a better bar for all.
