The Nigerian Bar Association has constituted Committee for the 2022 general election.

The Electoral Committee was constituted on Thursday at the NEC meeting of the NBA, held at Abeokuta the State Capital of Ogun State.

Richard Ayodele Akintunde SAN. is appointed to head the committee.

Other members of the Committee are

*Basil Udotai –Member

The ECNBA is constitutionally mandated to oversee the conduct of elections into various positions in the Executive Council of the NBA and is thus expected to put up plan, modalities ad necessary machineries to that effect.

Elections into the NBA National Executive holds biennialy and the next election is expected to take place next year.

The applicable rules and guidelines relating to eligibility and nomination will be announced by the electoral committee in due course.

Richard Ayodele Akintunde graduated from the University of Ife in 1984 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985. He is the Founding Partner of the law firm of Ayodele Akintunde & Co. a full service law firm based in Lagos, Nigeria with affiliate offices in Abuja and Port Harcourt.

Richard Ayodele Akintunde was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2016.

He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the International Bar Association (IBA), the International Federation of Bankruptcy and Insolvency Professionals (INSOL), a Fellow of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators United Kingdom, a Chartered Arbitrator, a SCMA Accredited Mediation Advocacy Trainer, a member of the panel of Neutrals of the LMDC, a member of the Lagos Court of Arbitration, a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom, a SEC approved Capital Market Consultant and a Notary Public of Nigeria. In 2020, Ayodele became a Fellow of Society of Construction Industry Arbitrator.

For over 35 years he has been involved in active legal practice. He has been involved in several landmark cases and high profile transactions. His practice areas include Corporate/Commercial Law, Insolvency, Arbitration, Litigation, Oil and Gas, Real Estate, Employment Law, Environmental Law, Corporate Finance and Securities and Criminal Law.

He has acted as Party Counsel, Sole Arbitrator and Party Appointed Arbitrator in several small and large sum Arbitrations. He has also acted as Mediation Advocate in several Mediations.

Ayodele has several articles on arbitration and mediation related matters in recognized law journals and publications and he has also made presentations at local and international law conferences. Some of his presentations/publications include; “Adequate Compensation for Victims of Crime” presented at the Nigeria Bar Association Annual Conference in Kaduna; “Global Warming and the Environment – A Challenge for Lawyers in Africa?” presented at the International Bar Association Annual Conference in Dublin, Ireland; “Can the right to apply to set aside an Award be waived under Nigeria Law?” published in the International Bar Association Arbitration Newsletter; and “Arbitration and Insolvency – Strange Bedfellows” presented at the 2017 Fellowship Workshop of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria in Lagos, Nigeria.
