*Says Public Interest Litigation Committee Is To Restore Public Confidence In Law As Tool For Checking Abuse of Power
The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Olumide Akpata, has set up a Public Interest Litigation Committee.
In a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Rapulu Nduka, NBA said the community is to take steps to restore public confidence in law as tool for bringing solution to societal issues and checking abuse of power.
Members of the Committee include Dr. Charles Mekwunye (Chairman); Dr. Olumide Ayeni, SAN (Co-Chairman); Chairman NBA – SPIDEL (Dr. Paul Ananaba, SAN); and Kunle Edun amongst others

Dear Colleagues,
In a recent statement issued by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, he noted that recent events in the nation have reinforced the need for the NBA to activate its public interest litigation machinery to institute actions to challenge and seek judicial intervention on various issues.
To that end, the NBA has now empanelled a 13-member NBA Public Interest Litigation Committee (“PILC”) with a mandate to, among other things, actively take steps to restore and reinforce the faith of the society in law as a veritable tool to bringing solutions to societal issues and checking abuse of power.
