The Calabar Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association has condemned in the strongest terms, the unfortunate incident of the kidnap of one of their members, Ettah Ebri Ukagu, Esq. which occurred on Thursday 30th day of January, 2020 at about 10:00pm in Calabar metropolis by unknown gunmen.
In the Press Statement signed by the Chairman, Pail O. Ebiala, and the Secretary, Effiom Ayi, Esq., made available to TheNigerialawyer (TNL), the branch is calling for an appeal for his immediate and unconditional release.
According to the statement, this is a bitter pill to swallow by not only members of the Branch and the Legal Profession as a whole, but also his immediate family and the general public.
“Members of the Calabar Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association were awoken to the unfortunate incident of the kidnap of one of their members, Ettah Ebri Ukagu, Esq. which occurred on Thursday 30th day of January, 2020 at about 10:00pm in Calabar metropolis by unknown gunmen. Undoubtedly, this is a bitter pill to swallow by not only members of the Branch and the Legal Profession as a whole, but also his immediate family and the general public.
“The Branch leadership condemns in the strongest terms this criminal act and appeals to his abductors to release him unconditionally in the shortest possible time. We also call on the relevant law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to secure his immediate release.
“In the same vein, we call on both the State and Federal Governments to device means to bring to an end the recurring incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery, killings and cultism in the country. We demand the discharge of this constitutional responsibility of government with speed and diligence,” it reads.
