The Nigerian Bar Association Awka branch on Saturday inaugurated the Executive Committee members of the branch.

The inauguration took place on Saturday, 13th July 2019 at the Main Hall of Ozo Amanke Okafor Bar Centre, Awka. The Oath of Office was administered by Chief Emma Odum (a Notary Public).

The officers sworn in were: 

1. Ekene Okonkwo (Chairman),
2. P. U.  Chukwukwue (Vice Chairman),
3. Tony Anazor (Secretary),
4. Nmasi Chito Ilechukwu (Assistant Secretary),
5. C.C. Onubogu (Treasurer).
6. Maxwell Udechukwu (Legal Adviser).

Recall that the branch on 29th July conducted an election that brought in the new Executive Committee.

Before the Inauguration, the immediate past Chairman of the Branch, Sir G.U. Moneke in his Valedictory Speech, thanked all strata of members of the Branch for their support. In his Inaugural Speech, the new Chairman of the Branch, Ekene Okonkwo promised to consolidate on the gains so far made, run an inclusive administration and sought for continued support of the members for the new administration.

The inauguration of the Executive Committee was heralded by the commissioning of a standard lawn tennis court at the rear of the Bar Centre built and donated by Uche Ajator, Esq. and named: “Prof Ilochi Okafor, SAN Lawn Tennis Court.” 

The Learned Silk, Prof Ilochi Okafor, SAN cut the tape and declared the lawn tennis court open. 

In his speech, the Learned Silk enjoined members to make maximum use of the lawn tennis court. Furthermore, the Learned Silk promised to use his Law Firm – IUC Global Chambers – to sponsor “Annual Lawn Tennis Competition” amongst members. He further stated that the annual competition is to be named: “Uche Ajator Annual Lawn Tennis Competition.” At the end of the commissioning of the Lawn Tennis Court and the inauguration of the new executive, members wined and dined, courtesy of the Mother of the Bar, Mrs Berne Nwachukwu, who was the hostess of the day.
