It serves as an important contributor to our mandatory continuous legal education. It is indeed a forum where lawyers from several cities across Nigeria meet, interact, brainstorm on issues and even unwind after seven months of intense work and exertions. Every lawyer looks forward to this largest gathering of lawyers every August. The 57th edition billed for Lagos is no exception. As usual many lawyers have taken positive steps to register for the conference. The enthusiasm has however been dampened by the inability of many lawyers, particularly those of 1-10 years post call, to register for the AGC since about 7th day of July, 2017 This problem has in fact persisted as many lawyers in this category who sought to register are still unable to do so. They merely got the terse statement “Sold out ” which has been a stumbling block to their bid to register. This inability has continued even though the window for conference registration as approved by NEC is still open. There are misgivings in some quarters that this is intentionally skewed to avert huge turn out. In my recollection, intending conferees are usually encouraged to register for the AGC. I am indeed certain this year’s AGC will be no exception. I believe the current NBA leadership and all those saddled with planning for the conference also committed to ensuring that no lawyer desirous of attending the conference is precluded from doing so. I therefore plead with our colleagues to exercise patience while the unpleasant development is sorted out. No joy surpasses the learning and convivial environment which the AGC yearly offers. We shall enjoy same in Lagos this year. Wishing you a memorable conference in advance. Thank you. Mazi Afam Osigwe]]>
