The EXCO and members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch, has condemned the brazen attack on Justice Mary Odili on the 29th October 2021 by yet-to-be-identified state agents in a manner that reinforces the general perception of a culture of disregard for the rule of law by the enforcement arms of the Federal Government.
This was made known in a statement signed by Chairman, Bulus Atsen.
We, therefore, call on the leadership of the EFCC and the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation to immediately sanction the rogue officers who carried out the reported illegal attack.
The culture of arresting citizens without reasonable cause, before investigation must stop for Nigeria’s democracy to thrive.
As Barack Obama observed, “one of the challenges of a democratic government is making sure that even in the midst of emergencies and passions, we make sure that rule of law and basic precepts of justice and liberty prevail.”
We also call on the Judiciary to continue to hold the Executive accountable, especially where their powers infringe on the rights of the average Nigerian.
