The Young Lawyers of NBA Aba are mobilizing to storm the Umuahia Prison today 26th March, 2020 for solidarity visit to Emperor Gabriel G. Ogbonna who was arrested and detained at the instance of the Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor.

A Junior lawyer from the detainee office had written a petition to the Aba Brach of NBA for action.

The petition which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL) says “on the 24th of March, 2020 the Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, A. B. C. Agbazuere, Esq., stormed to our office in the early hours of the day with squad of police officers and arrested Chief. Gabriel Ogbonna Emperor and took him to the office of the commissioner of police, Umuahia

“On the same date, he was Arraigned with Frivolous charge of Cybercrime in the Magistrates Court 6 Umuahia with an ex-parte motion attached with an affidavit.

“The lead counsel was Senior Unegbu of No. 7 Factory Road, Aba, he tried his best under the prevailing condition but since the Chief of Staff to the Governor was present in court, the Magistrate, could not do the needful, rather she decided to decline jurisdiction and transferred the matter to the A.G of the state office for guidance. The matter was adjourned to 31st day of March, for report of compliance

“We equally applied for the CTC of the record of court proceedings and the Motion Exparte”

The charge accuses Ogbonna, Esq of conspiring to commit terrorism and also publishing false and threatening messages in the internet against the incumbent governor to subvert the people of Abia State.

The charge partly reads:

“That you Empero Gabriel Ogbonna and others now at large, on the same date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District knowingly and intentionally published fal6and threat message to internet that the Executive Governor of Abia State,  Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu swore an oath before the ancient HARASHIMA (A Hindu god) to abide absolutely by the conditions presented by his predecessor in office and subvert the people of Abia State, Senator T.A. Or is, his son Hon. Chinedum Orji that the spirits they worship should deal with him if he fails in his undertaking, a publication you know to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insult, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred and ill-will against Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and thereby committed an offence publishable under Section 18(1) of the cybercrime(Prohibition Prevention ETC) Act, 2015.”

Ogbonna is now on remand at the Umuahia Prison
