*Former Chairman, NBA Gombe Join List Of Lawyers To Endorse Maikyau’s Candidacy

The Candidacy of the Chairman of the NBA Welfare Committee, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau SAN for the office of National President of the NBA in the 16th July election has received great boost with the recent open endorsement by the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law, Ayuli Gemide and the Former Chairman of the NBA Gombe branch.
Recall that the election into National Offices of the Nigerian Bar Association for a two-year term is scheduled to hold on the 16th of this month according to ECNBA Calendar, and as the date draws nearer, the Association has seen an increase in the political temperature with Lawyers and Bar Leaders coming out to openly endorse their preferred candidates.
In the latest swing of endorsements, the Chair of the NBA-SBL, Ayuli Jemide in a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer stated that Maikyau possesses all qualities needed to lift the Bar higher.
In a brief statement, Jemide who is the Founding Partner of Detail Solicitors said: “YC Maikyau in my view has the charisma, vision and temperament to lift the NBA to greater heights”
In similar vein, a Former Chairman of the NBA Gombe branch, Haruna Yelma, in his endorsement of Maikyau made available to TheNigeriaLawyer recalled how he was instrumental to helping the branch access a much sought-after death benefit for a deceased member of the branch during his tenure.
He wrote: “During my tenure as the antecedent Chairman of the NBA Gombe branch, we were bereaved of an illustrious member (the late Rotimi Abayomi Williams). Consequent on which my administration sought to obtain the death benefit pioneered by the Olumide Akpata’s regime to ameliorate the agony of the bereaved family & in solidarity provide them with reassurance that they were not alone, as the NBA remembers its own.
For the umpteenth time, via my then secretary G.R.Ayuba we applied again and again to secure the grant to no avail. Then I was advised to contact the chairman of the NBA welfare group who turned out to be the Learned Silk YC Maikyau SAN.
Upon cognizance of our plight, YC was visibly smitten with grief & stricken with empathy. Though he knew not the late Rotimi, he familially commiserated with us, and the one million naira death benefit we couldn’t secure in months, we received same in less than a week of his intervention.
This is the kind of leader YC Maikyau is!
A leader who is prompt to action!
A leader whose heart abounds with bona fide concern for the welfare of the people!
A leader who is chiseled! seasoned! & committed to the amplitude of the NBA!”
In a related development, Maikyau has been described as a “Champion of Women’s Right” by the Pioneer of Federation of International Lawyers (FIDA) in Gombe State, Hannatu Dauda Simon.
Endorsing Maikyau, she says Maikyau’s emergence instills in her, Euphoric hope of an egalitarian and all-inclusive NBA where women will have an opportunity to thrive.
According to her:
“As a firm advocate of women’s right, the pioneer of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Gombe State & the focal person in gender based violence against women and children (GBV) it is my vehement concern that whoever is elected the captain of the NBA, be one who is veraciously passionate about the rights of women & will through affirmative action ensure our inclusiveness in key decision making in the NBA. ”
She said “Having punctiliously scrutinized all candidates, Y.C’s emergence instills me with euphoric hope of an egalitarian and an all inclusive NBA where women will be unfettered & given an opportunity to thrive. Y.C’s administration aims at giving a big push to a constellation of NBA women & ensuring that we are granted a full voice and equal opportunities.”
She noted that Maikyau has demonstrated through his life, work, & years of advocating for Women’s right that he is committed to breaking the glass ceiling & paving a definitive path for women to become a formidable force to reckon with in the NBA.
She wrote: “YC believes that when a woman is obliged a role in leadership & allowed to participate in decision making, she brings something unique, special & of high quality to the NBA’s biggest projects.
