A Candidate for the Office of National Welfare Secretary in the forthcoming NBA General elections, Auta Nyada has promised to prioritise the welfare of lawyers with emphasis on renumeration for services rendered if elected into office.

According to Nyada, Nigerian lawyers deserve better renumeration and it breaks his heart to see poorly renumerated lawyers.

“Have you met a lawyer whom you know to be hardworking and diligent at practice, but who elicits your pity because of their palpable need for financial intervention? I mean those genuine cases where you are certain were they fairly paid for services, their situation would be totally different? Well, I do meet a few here and there, and each time, I feel ashamed for my profession.”

According to him, law practice should fetch each of us a decent life.

According to him, lawyers who have ever battled shame for an underpaid colleague or felt they honestly deserve to earn better for their sweat, should have Auta Nyada on their minds as the NBA elections draw near.

He said: “This is simply because you and Auta Nyada have shared that same emotion over Lawyers whose appearance and countenance announce the fact that they are short changed compared to the value of their input. What’s more, Auta Nyada’s decision to stand election as welfare secretary means you can pin on him your desire to never feel shame again, at least not at the sight of an another underserved colleague.”

Nyada also promised to facilitate the standardisation of renumeration for lawyers in the country.

He said: “Auta Nyada will facilitate (with the approval of the President/NEC) to ensure standardisation of remuneration for lawyers, with particular emphasis on office take-home-pay and payments from land transactions where lawyers are most undercut.

Lawyers deserve their due. That is what Auta Nyada is in the race for.”
