The President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) has announced a call for expressions of interest for the appointment of two judges from Anambra and Oyo States. This move aims to fill judicial vacancies and strengthen the court’s capacity to handle industrial and employment-related disputes.

The announcement, contained in a letter dated January 15, 2025, was officially received on January 22, 2025. Eligible members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) who are qualified and interested in serving on the NICN bench are encouraged to submit their applications by February 21, 2025.

Interested candidates are required to submit their expressions of interest to the National Secretariat of the NBA. The application should be addressed to:

Applicants must include the following documents:
1. A copy of their Curriculum Vitae (CV)
2. A copy of their Call to Bar Certificate
3. Evidence of payment of Bar Practicing Fees (BPF) for the past 10 years
4. Evidence of payment of NBA Branch Dues for the past 10 years
5. Evidence of attendance at NBA Conferences
6. Evidence of membership in NBA Sections or Fora
7. Certified true copies of at least six judgments in contested cases within the last five years
8. A letter of good standing from the Chairman of the applicant’s NBA Branch, confirming adherence to the qualities outlined in the National Judicial Council Guidelines.

Candidates must demonstrate qualities such as good character, integrity, and a strong understanding of industrial relations and employment law. Additionally, they must have documented professional experience in the legal field.

In addition to physical submissions, candidates are required to upload an electronic copy of their expression of interest and accompanying documents using the designated link provided in the announcement.

Upon receipt of applications, the NBA National Secretariat may publish the names of interested candidates to allow for comments from members of the bar. Shortlisted candidates may also be invited for a screening interview as part of the selection process.

Candidates are also required to submit a similar expression of interest directly to the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
