The Chief Executive Officer of Morbod Group and frontline expert in the maritime and shipping law sector in Nigeria, Margaret Orakwusi is dead. Mrs. Grace had died on Friday, 28th April, 2023 and was described by Wahab Shittu, SAN as “…not just a human- being, she was indeed human”

This is big blow, especially, to the Maritime law community. The former President of Shipowners Forum died on April 28th, 2023 after a brief illness. Mrs. Orakwusi family has put up a notice stating that they would need privacy at this period of mourning, they had expressed that:
“With total submission to the will of God, we sadly announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Sister, Aunty; Princess (Barrister) Margaret Nkem Onyema-Orakwusi which occurred on April 28th, 2023 after a brief illness”
“The family requests privacy during this difficult time but will host visitations between Monday May 1st and Friday May 5th, 2023 within the hours of 4pm – 7pm daily at her residence in Ikoyi. The Family will make funeral announcement in due course.
Kindly put us in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time”
According to Wahab Shittu, SAN, in his statement which was obtained by TheNigeriaLawyers, he recounted that:
“A close colleague shared her picture on her status page without stating the reason. I immediately called the colleague to find out why and was informed that she passed on Friday night. To say l was shocked beyond belief by the sad news is an understatement. Mrs Margaret Orakwusi was a lawyer with expertise in shipping and widely renowned and respected in the industry- one of the very few with uncommon expertise in the law of shipping in Nigeria. I recall that about two years ago or thereabouts our paths crossed on a strategic transaction. I will save the details.”
The learned silk further in his eulogy has explained the attributes of Mrs. Grace that graced her and showed the type of person she was.
“I was awe- strucked by her courteous disposition and excellent manners. She was friendly, very friendly. Polite, very polite. Willing to offer a helping hand, she struck me as an excellent human- being. She was not just a human- being, she was indeed human. Why will death snatch such a good woman away? Why? Why? Why?. I guess we are not in a position to query God Almighty. As Aunty Margaret reunites with the saints, l say farewell to a great soul.”
Mrs. Grace Orakwusi is survived by her children Ezinma Ileka, Binyelum and Ody Orakwusi,
