A 28-year-old single mother, Faith Omoruyi, has exonerated her ex-boyfriend, Samuel Adams of allegations that he molested her 6-year-old daughter. Omoruyi, a victim of human trafficking, stated that Adams was framed by the non-governmental organisation (NGO) she reached out to upon returning from Russia.

In an interview with journalists, Omoruyi recalled how her ordeal started after being trafficked to Russia in 2011. On returning pregnant to Nigeria in 2015, she gave birth and sought assistance from Pathfinder Foundation.

Later, she was connected to another NGO – Ruth Idahosa Foundation, which provided her accommodation and enrolled her daughter in a school owned by Idahosa’s sister. However, Omoruyi said she recently discovered they changed her daughter’s name without her consent.

She revealed that her daughter was taken from her at age 2 and stayed with Idahosa’s family until age 4. Omoruyi got worried when they suddenly stopped supporting her daughter’s education and demanded she live with her.

Trouble started after her daughter had a toilet infection and was treated by a doctor. Omoruyi said police from FCID arrested her and Adams over molestation allegations she knew nothing about. Her daughter was taken into welfare custody.

Omoruyi believes her 6-year-old is being manipulated into changing her statement. She insisted Adams is innocent but has been held for 2 months without charges. Accusing the NGO of exploiting her helplessness, she called for immediate investigation and Adams’ release.

The NGO leader, Ruth Idahosa, responding via text from overseas, said her organisation will provide a statement on returning next week. But Omoruyi urges authorities and Nigerians to swiftly intervene and rescue Adams from unjust detention over a crime he didn’t commit.
