The minority caucus in the House of Representatives will meet in Abuja today (Monday) to deliberate on the lawsuit filed by its leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, seeking to halt alleged plans to remove him from his position.

The meeting was announced in a notice issued on Sunday and jointly signed by Hon. Agbedi Frederick, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus; Hon. Afam Ogene (Labour Party); Hon. Muktar Umar-Zakari (New Nigeria Peoples Party); and Hon. Peter Uzokwe (Young Progressives Party).
The notice read, “To: All Minority Members of the House of Representatives – you are hereby invited to an emergency meeting to discuss recent developments in the minority leadership, particularly to review the lawsuit instituted by Minority Leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, against all members of minority parties in the 10th House of Representatives.
“Agenda: Response to the lawsuit instituted by House Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda, against all minority parties; and any other business (AOB).”
The meeting comes amid growing tension within the opposition bloc following a suit filed by Chinda at the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking to restrain any attempt to remove him as Minority Leader.
According to court documents sighted, the writ of summons dated September 16, 2025, was issued by Dr. J.Y. Musa (SAN), counsel to Chinda. The suit lists the management of the National Assembly, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, and nine others—including all opposition parties as defendants.
Chinda is seeking a declaration that any move to remove him over his alleged association with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, amounts to a violation of his fundamental right to freedom of association as guaranteed under Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The writ, filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division, directs all defendants to appear within 30 days of service or risk judgment being entered against them in their absence.
“You are hereby commanded that within thirty days (30) after the service of this writ on you, inclusive of the day of such service, you do cause an appearance to be entered for you in an action at the suit of Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda, and take notice that in default of your so doing, the plaintiff may proceed therein and judgment may be given in your absence,” the summons read in part.
The development has deepened internal divisions within the minority caucus, with some lawmakers expressing concern that the lawsuit could widen existing cracks among opposition members in the lower chamber.
