The Defence Headquarters has strongly refuted and expressed concern over a report claiming that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) had received a request to facilitate a change of leadership within the country.

In a statement issued by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, on Sunday in Abuja, the Defence Headquarters clarified that such a request was never made to or received by the armed forces.

“We want to make it clear that this assertion is entirely false and disturbing. The armed forces have neither received nor communicated any such declaration to any individual or group,” Gusau emphasized.

He further stated, “We believe that this misleading statement has been propagated by those who are not invested in the well-being and progress of our nation. It appears to be the product of a small faction with ulterior motives that are contrary to our national interests.”

Gusau emphasized the military’s steadfast commitment to democratic principles and its loyalty to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu.

“The military has a deep respect for the tenets of democracy and is resolved to protect and uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Our stance remains unwavering,” he added.

The statement also warned those spreading such false information to cease their actions or face legal consequences.

“The military, alongside other security agencies, remains vigilant in identifying and apprehending those who propagate such harmful misinformation. We call upon all citizens to collaborate in preserving and fortifying our democratic system,” Gusau concluded.
