The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 30 controllers of prisons to the prestigious rank of Assistant Comptrollers General, marking a significant step in the ongoing reform agenda of the Nigerian Prisons Service.

This was disclosed in Abuja by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Umar Abubakar, a Deputy Controller of Prisons. He noted that the Civil Defence, Prisons, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) conveyed the approval in line with efforts to uphold merit-based advancement and professional excellence.

Among the newly promoted officers are 27 from the general duty cadre who were elevated for their outstanding leadership and operational competence across formations nationwide. Additionally, three professional officers in Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health were promoted for their specialised contributions.

Abubakar stated that the promotion reflects the commitment of the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to strengthening leadership within the Service under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He commended the minister’s dedication to repositioning the Nigerian Prisons Service, describing his efforts as unprecedented.

In his reaction, the Comptroller-General of Prisons, Sylvester Nwakuche, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to redouble their efforts towards efficient service delivery and inmate rehabilitation.

Nwakuche stressed that the elevation was both a reward for past performance and a call to greater responsibility in line with international standards in prison management.
