*Alleges Unwarranted Witch-hunt And Bias By Top Officials In The School.
*Calls For Intervention And Investigation By School’s Management

A Mathematics Teacher Kenneth Odonigwe and French teacher, Princess Benie at Kingdom Heritage Model School, Udu, Warri, have cried out following what they described as an unlawful termination of their appointment by the school.

Kingdom Heritage Model School is an offshoot of the Education Commission of Living Faith Church and has over 156 branches nationwide.

Recalling the sequence of events leading up to his retrenchment, Kenneth who taught Mathematics at the Udu branch of the School recalled that in 2019 he was approached by one Joy Okoli during one of the Communion services at the mother church, Living Faith Church, and pleaded with him that the school was in need of a mathematics teacher and she learnt that he is a very good mathematics teacher.

In furtherance to that conversation, she told him to send his application letter. After series of interviews were conducted and his credentials was sent to Lagos for approval, Mr Kenneth was finally employed in 2020 with his B.sc mathematics as a mathematics teacher.

According to TheNigeriaLawyer findings, in addition to the Bsc mathematics, Mr Kenneth also earned a post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE ) in order to upgrade himself for better opportunities in future. However, the PGDE certificate has not been issued due to the ongoing ASUU strike action, but there was an attestation signed by one Dr. (Mrs) T. Ojogan, the Director of PDGE Programme at the College of Education, Warri.

Further narrating his ordeal, Mr. Kenneth stated that in the month of May, 2022, Mrs Okoli was asked to step down as the head teacher of the school, and the Local School Board (LSB) declared the position vacant, and that interested persons should apply. Pursuant to that call for applications, he applied for the vacant role and Six(6) persons were later shortlisted for the examination including Mr Kenneth Odinigwe.

On 18th June, 2022, screening exercise was carried out and the examination eventually took place. When the results of the examination were released, Mr Kenneth Odinigwe came out on top with a huge margin.

According to him, since that day, 18th June, 2022 things went sour for him.

According to him, “It is very obvious that the LSB and some other persons including Mrs Okoli,Mr Welfare (acting head teacher), Mr Ayokunle Akinsolotu (Director of primary schools), Mr Tega(Quality Assurance Officer) and some members of the pastorates do not want me to occupy that office because they have a candidate, Mrs Clerk Edwards who we learnt is a very close friend to Mrs Okoli and a staff of KHMS, Effurun.”

Kenneth alleged that he has been receiving threat calls from different persons telling him he cannot be the head teacher of the school. We were also informed that on 28th July,2022 during KHMS Udu end of term party, One Quality Assurance Officer named Tega called Kenneth from Lagos through the QAO’s line to threaten him that he cannot be the head teacher in the school, that he was going to flush him out of the system. Even the LSB chairperson Mrs Akpojivi Julie also asked him why he applied for the headteacher’s position, that he has gotten himself into Ayokunle’s trouble.

On 5th September, 2022, Mrs Akpojivi called Mr Kenneth and Mrs James princess( French teacher) and gave them letters which state that they have been retrenched due to alleged non-compliamce with certificate presentation instruction that was carried out.

TheNigeriaLawyer also obtained from Mr Kenneth that there was no certificate verification approved from the Lagos Headquarters of the School, and they were dismissed on the basis of an alleged petition whose content they were not aware of. In addition, he claimed the result of the Headteacher’s examination was sent in WORD document instead of PDF to allow for manipulation of the results against Mr Kenneth who topped the examination.

The French teacher, princess Benie, narrating her account said she’s Cameroonian, and was employed to teach French language in kingdom heritage model school Udu 8 years ago as a part time teacher.

“Then I was asked by the head teacher who employed me to convert to a full time teacher, which I accepted, that was in 2019 before mrs joy okoli took over and issued me my appointment letter.

“None of them told me I need an education certificate because mrs. Unuechene milla said french is a professional course, only for the LSB to come this April for verification because of the troubles about the head teacher position which I did not even apply for.

“They brought a release letter for me and the young man that took first position in the exams.

“Forcing us to sign the letter and immediately they remove dour name from the pay roll.

“The date of the letter shows 2nd sept but they brought it to our notice on the 5th of Sept.2022.

“I have my results’ my CAP en francais it is a professional certificate for French.“

Speaking with a staff, she noted that having a certificate in education is one of the criteria for employment in the school.

“Because Kenneth when he was employed he didn’t have a certificate in Education, he was asked to upgrade if he must continue. Kenneth did PGD in Education at the College of Education, Warri, but he has not got his certificate.”

When asked if he has a document to show that he has PGD in Education, since universities have been on strike for over eight months, she answered in affirmation noting that she didn’t know why the management had to retrenchment.

She also said that Benie was not directed to get a certificate in Education since her course ‘French’ is a professional one though she has a diploma in French, which should suffice.

Given their ordeal, Kenneth said he has made several efforts to reach the school authority in Lagos, but they have proven futile.

He therefore uses this media to call the attention of the school’s management to the grave injustice meted on him for intervention and investigation.
