Recall that the Egbe Amofin O’odua announced its adopted candidates after its meeting held on the 22nd day of July 2018 at the International Conference center of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The three candidates with yoruba inclination though from Kwara State in the North Central of Nigeria Messrs Mas’ud Alabelewe, Chief Rafiu Oyeyemi Balogun and Dr. Idris Mobolaji Ojibara were invited to a meeting by the committee of five set up by the Egbe on the floor of meeting to see to the possibility of getting two of the three candidates to step down to avoid splitting their votes. The Nigeria Lawyer gathered (TNL) that after an intensive deliberation, the committee reported to the forum that Mas’ud Alabelewe, being the most senior both at the Bar and biological and out of the respect for the Forum offered to withdraw from the race on the condition that either Ojibara or Balogun could step down for each other. While Ojibara indicated his willingness to be bound by the decision, Balogun requested to confer with the DG of his campaign who was also present at the meeting. The Egbe accepted Balogun’s request and after discussions with the DG and his entourage, the DG of Balogun’s campaign Dr. Mustapha Adua reported to the meeting that the issue of who steps down for one another between the duo could not be resolved at Ilorin for more than a year. He, however, requested the house to bless them to contest. The house invited the three candidates to stand before them when debates ensured on the best decision on the matter. After serious deliberations between Chief Rafiu Balogun and Dr. Ojibara and pursuant to motion for the adoption of Mas’ud Alabelewe as the preferred candidate of Egbe Amofin O’odua for the post of NBA General Secretary in 2018 election which was moved by Murtala Agboola, the immediate Past Chairman of NBA Ile Ife Branch and seconded by Adekola Kareem Esq, the immediate past vice chairman of NBA Ibadan Branch and in the absence of any counter motion, hence, the decision was unanimous among those present at the meeting.]]>
