Sixty-eight legal practitioners are set to be formally admitted into Nigeria’s Inner Bar on Monday, October 12, 2026, when the Supreme Court of Nigeria holds the conferment ceremony for the newly elevated Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

The ceremony is scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m. at the Main Courtroom of the Supreme Court of Nigeria Complex, Abuja, following the approval of the successful candidates by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee.

The 68 successful applicants comprise 67 advocates and one academic, following the decision of the LPPC at its 174th plenary session held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun.

In a statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, the committee explained that the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is conferred on legal practitioners who have demonstrated professional excellence and exceptional distinction either in advocacy before the courts or through contributions to legal scholarship.

Ahead of Monday’s ceremony, the LPPC directed all successful applicants to attend and successfully complete a mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme, describing participation as a prerequisite for the formal conferment of the rank.

The committee also reminded the prospective Senior Advocates of the ethical restrictions governing publicity surrounding their elevation.

It specifically prohibited the conferees from publishing, sponsoring or encouraging advertisements, congratulatory messages or goodwill notices relating to their nomination or conferment.

According to the LPPC, the restriction is in line with Paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023, with breaches capable of attracting disciplinary sanctions.
