The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court today sacked the Ibrahim Gusau-led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Board.

Justices Barika, Okon Abang and Banjoko ordered the dismissal of the NFF Board in Appeal No: CA/ABJ/CV/1006/2022. The court set aside and struck out all “dubious” orders allegedly obtained by “deceit” on September 29th, 2022 to conduct the NFF election on September 30th in Benin City.

The judges further ordered that those process be deleted from all systems of the court.

This judgment is expected to have significant implications on the governance and future of Nigerian football, as it has plunged the football community into confusion and uncertainty.

Any sacked NFF board member still parading themselves as such after the ongoing AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast risks facing criminal contempt charges, the court warned.

The aftermath of this court ruling remains to be seen. But it has no doubt caused major upheaval in Nigerian football weeks before the national team competes in the Africa Cup of Nations.
