A Non-Government Organization, the Incorporated Trustees of the Egalitarian Mission for Africa has demanded observance of due process and accountability from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development in its distribution of stimulus packages to the indigent and vulnerable citizens in some targeted areas of the Country.

TheNigerialawyer recalls that the Federal Government on Wednesday said it has commenced payment of N20, 000 each to five thousand beneficiaries of its Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This was disclosed by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq.

It would be recalled also that on the 29th of March, 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari in his Address to the Nation had reeled out measures to be followed after he orders lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun State which is to commence by 11 pm the following day. In his Address, Mr. President had ordered the distribution of relief materials to residents of satellite towns and communities to ease their pains in the coming week.

In a letter to the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development through its Lawyer, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, made available to TheNigerialawyer(TNL), the group urged the Minister to observe due diligence in ensuring successful disbursement of the stimulus packages to the affected citizens.

The letter further stated that the group pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act demanded information relating to the receipt or expenditure of the public funds (stimulus packages) disbursed by the Ministry.
